Brenda sleeps tethered to my bed on a double-decker bed of her own made out of stacking two fluffy dog beds. Since Porter and Sadie sleep on my bed with me, I make Brenda as comfortable as I can—not only so she’s happy, but also so she’ll sleep throughout the night. She often wakes up around 5:30 barking in my face. After ruling out the need for her to go to the bathroom by trying to remember when she last went out and whether or not she peed and pooped, I drape my arm over the bed and lightly stroke her back for a few minutes.
A few nights ago petting her wouldn’t make her quiet, and desperate to avoid taking her outside in the freezing cold, I got an extra comforter and wrapped her up in it. She instantly fell asleep. Now each night in addition to putting her on her double-decker bed and tethering her to my bed leg, I swaddle Brenda like a little baby. She loves it.
