Brenda’s skin, especially on her face, is extremely delicate, and because of her “issues” on the street I’ve been taking her for walks with a head halter called a Halti. Since the Halti has a thin strap that goes around her nose and designed to encourage her to stop pulling, whenever she does pull (which is often), the strap digs into her skin. It really digs into her skin—and she has a very high pain threshold. The wound has become so deep that she starts to bleed the instant I put the head halter on her. Unable to torture her like that I’ve been walking her with only a martingale collar and a leash.
I was nervous at first—nervous that Brenda would be out of control, dangerous and drag me all over the place. I was way off. She has been great on the street. She walks nicely by my side, always takes her treats when a trigger passes and has had no outbursts. I do watch her like a hawk, though.
