There was a recent heat wave in NYC and besides the humidity and high temperatures making me feel irritable and cranky, it took a major toll on Brenda.
She refused to walk and I had to pick her up every few feet. I was sweating and her fur stuck to my arms and chest--any exposed skin was covered with dog hair.
Passersby thought she was cute and many stopped to talk to me.
Sometimes I didn't pick her up when she flopped down on the sidewalk and instead I tried to wait her out. I didn't mind just standing there, but I was on edge from worrying if anybody or any dog might get too close and set her off.
The low point of the heat wave was having to carry up all five flights of stairs.
