On New Year’s Day Ben and I took the three dogs for a long walk. While passing through a small park, a black balloon with a long silver string attached to it blew into Sadie’s path. She was so alarmed that she jumped out of its way but her intrigue continued and she watched as it blew in the wind. The helium was almost gone so it didn’t fly away but it still fluttered nicely.
Feeling brave, Sadie ventured toward the piece of bobbing latex and poked it with her nose before jumped backwards again. She slowly crept back toward it until she could make out her own distorted reflection and started barking. Porter wanted in on the action and so he started barking it at is well, and not to feel left out, Brenda joined in the chorus.
Ben and I were laughing hysterically. At one point Sadie grabbed the string and ran in circles, freaked out because the balloon was following her. Once she dropped the string all three dogs took turns trying to get close enough to the balloon to touch it with their noses. As soon as they got within a foot or so they either jumped backwards in freight or growled and barked.
I don’t think any of them had ever seen a balloon before.
