Busy Buddy

When I leave Brenda for any length of time and she has to be in her crate (when Ben is home or Porter and Sadie’s dog walker is scheduled to come over) I leave her a mess of treats. Her daily fare, after breakfast and her ice cream treat filled with pills, includes a frozen marrow-bone, a few frozen turkey necks and a busy buddy filled with generic honey-nut cheerios called Scooters.

The Busy Buddy is basically a plastic bottle with a removable bottom to make filling it easier. The idea is that the dog playing with it has to figure out how to get the treats out and thus occupies time and energy. It’s wonderful. Brenda loves it and is entranced by this toy. She rolls it around, and turns it upside down until it’s raining cereal in her crate. There are Scooters all over the floor, but I don’t care. The ones that fall out of her crate are eaten by the other dogs.

If she ever destroys it, though, I think I’ll just buy a funnel and fill an empty water bottle with cheerios.
