Finding Morgan

I met Morgan at the last sidewalk sale we had to raise funds for Brenda’s care. She told me that she used to train seeing-eye dogs and that she had just moved to New York. She asked if I needed help with Brenda. She seemed promising and gave me her phone number and told me to call her. I did.

That next week, she went on a walk with Brenda and me. I met her girlfriend. Brenda growled just once but it didn’t phase Morgan a bit. Morgan was happy that Brenda brushed against her leg. I told Morgan that Brenda likes blondes.

The next time Morgan met Brenda, she wore her hair down. I was already in California for Thanksgiving but Belisa told me. That week, Belisa and Brenda walked together every day.

Belisa sent Morgan text messages signed from Brenda.

When I returned from California, Morgan stopped contacting us. After three texts I gave up. I figured she had changed her mind and was no longer interested in taking on our charity case.

Then, one night a few days later, she sent me a message from the hospital. She had pneumonia and was recovering. We exchanged messages for a few days after that and she promised to come back into our lives once she’s better.

I’m hopeful that day comes soon, but I’m not holding my breath. I haven’t heard from her in a few weeks. It is Christmas time, though. I’ll really start to worry after the new year.
