Tripping over Scared Dogs
This story is related to Brenda only in that it has to do with rescued dogs. I was walking two fearful medium-sized black mixes home for their owners the other day. One of them pooped and I routinely walked toward a trashcan. Just as we passed a telephone booth, a poster blew off in the wind and the dogs, who were wearing Halti’s (head halters), started jumping and twisting in the air. They wrapped themselves around both of my legs and I toppled over them onto my knees. I was terrified that I’d drop the leashes and they’d run in a panic into traffic, but I was able to get untangled and quickly jumped up to assess the situation. There was a huge rip in my pants, but I was still holding the bag of poop— a feat two bystanders couldn’t help but comment on before they asked if I was ok.
