Swimming with Sally

To help Brenda develop musculature that would enable her to walk, as well as to help her bond with people other than Belisa and myself, Stacy suggested regular swim therapy sessions. Twice a week for the past month or so, Sally, one of the therapists at Who’s Walking Who, has given Brenda an aquatic workout. Brenda wears her muzzle, Sally wears a wetsuit and Brenda doggie paddles until she’s worn out. Brenda is getting increasingly more relaxed, and though I’m not in the room, other dogs, therapists and parents are. Sometimes they are even in the pool at the same time. Sally has even been able to feed Brenda treats and walk her around a bit afterwards.

Brenda doesn’t like to kick her back legs, though, so her upper body is developing at a much faster rate than her lower. But that’s Ok, seeing as how her back leg muscles were atrophied when we found her.
