Today, Brenda picked up a piece of trash and held it in her mouth for a few blocks. She looked very pleased with herself and kept looking up at me for approval. While she was holding it she was not paying attention to anything else, such as men or other dogs and I realized that if I could only train her to hold something in her mouth during high-stress situations she'd be unable to bark or growl.
Later, when she got bored with the piece of trash, I found a tennis ball and told her to carry it. She did for a while and then lost interest. I think I can put take, hold, drop on command, though and will focus on that this week.
