Now that Brenda is house trained, she can be free in the apartment. When Ben is home she is muzzled. Her muzzle has proven to effectively prevent her and Porter from getting in a fight—given Porter’s passive nature around her, this is something I never thought I’d have to worry about. I have no worries about leaving all three dogs alone and free. They only fight when I’m around.
The other night, Brenda was free, sleeping on her bed near the couch. Sadie was on another bed on the other end of the couch. Ben and I were watching TV and sitting on the couch with Porter snuggled in between us. Brenda woke up and came over to say hi. She did not want to get on the couch—I think she was on her way to get some water. Porter, however, started barking at her. She went after him. He went after her and ripped the muzzle off her face before we could grab him and put an end to the squabbling. Sadie just sat there and yawned.
An almost identical incident happened the next night, though there was no couch or snuggling involved. I don’t think protecting his space with us is the issue. I think Porter hates Brenda and is fed up with her being here. He has been getting increasingly more violent with her, and it’s not fun.
