Before Brenda came into our lives, we had agreed to watch Mika, our neighbor’s dog whom we love, and who is Sadie’s best friend. We agreed to watch Mika for an entire month while her parents were in Israel.
I forgot about this promise when I agreed to foster Brenda, and so for the month of April, we had four dogs in our apartment. Actually, there was one week when Shirly and Nadov, Mika’s parents, rented their apartment to someone who was going to also take care of Mika.
This person did not have much experience with dogs and called me a lot to ask for advice and help. When Mika got sick with diarrhea I made her apple and celery sauce. Having this other person in the mix helped only to make our apartment less crowded. Otherwise, he didn’t help that much. We still cooked for Mika and walked her. This was not a problem though, especially since at that time, Sadie wasn’t walking outside by herself. The bigger pack we could get for her the more calm outside she’d be.
This month taught me so much about pack mentality, and dog behavior in general. In hindsight, I’m very happy I was able to experience it.
