Because Ben can’t handle Brenda without her wearing a muzzle, taking care of her has been a scheduling feat. Before he walks her I have to run home and strap on the muzzle, and now, if she’s in her crate when Ben prepares one of the dog meals, I have to be the one to feed her. If I’m not home, this means that sometimes Brenda eats at a different time than Porter and Sadie.
Ben used to be able to open Brenda’s crate and quickly shove her bowl of food inside; however, she got into a nasty habit of trying to bury each portion under her bed. She’d shove her snout into the bed until her bowl of food toppled over and spilled all over the fabric and through the slots of her crate.
This wouldn’t be such a problem if our dogs at kibble, but they don’t. We cook a huge pot of real food for them each week consisting of a variety of fruits and vegetables, grains and meat. It reminds me of a soft meat loaf.
Brenda now eats outside of her crate tethered to a piece of furniture out of reach of any of her beds.
